Two US companies — Nuvino and Spotwine — are now repackaging premium wine in convenient juice-style pouches to make it more accessible for busy consumers.
The market for a product is not necessarily a fixed thing, and we’ve even seen beer redesigned as a fitness drink in recent months. For those who find fine wine too snobby, two US companies are now repackaging premium wine in convenient juice-style pouches to make it more accessible for busy consumers.
California-based Nuvino has introduced a range of four new wine products, each of which comes in a specially-developed PreservPak that ensures the flavor stays in tact. The company offers a Chardonnay from South Africa, a Sauvignon Blanc from Chile, a Red blend from Australia and a Malbec from Argentina. Each pouch contains 187ml — the same as one glass — of wine, and can be easily carried in a pocket or bag. It doesn’t require a corkscrew to open, instead using a simple plastic top that can be screwed back on. Those on the go can simply drink straight from the pouch, although the wine can also be poured into a glass for those who still prefer to enjoy their wine that way.
Hailing from Connecticut, Spotwine offers similar convenience with its pouch-packaged wine, but enables customers to enjoy a white Californian varietal. Its VierTek technology enables the wine to be cooled quicker than if it was in a bottle, and according to the company has a carbon footprint that is 7 times smaller.

These companies hope to attract both experienced and novice wine drinkers by taking some of the inconvenience and snobbery out of drinking wine without sacrificing quality. Are there other alcoholic beverages that could soon follow?
