Tao WellShell is a smart device that enables anyone to carry out resistance exercise from their seat, while also tracking their progress.
The rise of white collar industry in developed countries means that the majority of workers spend most of their days sitting down, often with bad posture. As a result, we’ve seen a few innovations attempt to bring micro-exercise into the office environment, such as the Stir Kinetic Desk, which occasionally rises to encourage users to regularly get up from their chair. Now Tao WellShell is a smart device that enables anyone to carry out resistance exercise from their seat, while also tracking their progress.
The mechanics behind the handheld pod are based on ‘isometric’ techniques such as yoga and pilates, in which muscles are exercised through the pressure placed upon them in different positions. A gyroscope inside the device provides the necessary resistance to help users develop their muscles, while pressure sensors detect how hard they’re pushing and whether they need to push more. Through a range of hundreds of possible exercises — which can be accessed through the companion app — the Tao WellShell can be used to improve muscle strength, tone the body and improve circulation. The device can also be connected to users’ smartphones via the app, which tracks their performance, offers suggestions to improve depending on their goals, and enables them to combine their data and daily diet to get a more comprehensive view of their health. The video below shows the device in action:
Tao WellShell not only tracks users’ exercise regimes but also plays a key part in helping them build muscle even when they can’t make it to the gym. How else can exercise become more easily incorporated into the office environment?
