Headphones let users test their hearing

Headphones create a personalised listening experience by allowing users to test their hearing and tailor sound accordingly.

Technology has enabled many new innovations in music, including an emotionally intelligent smart speaker and an app that transcribes audio into sheet music. Now, Australian company, Audeara, has created headphones with a hearing test built in. This enables users to adjust sound and enjoy a personalised listening experience. Founded by two doctors – Dr James Fielding and Dr Chris Jeffery – Audeara raises awareness of the importance of taking care of hearing.

The Audeara A-01 headphones have active noise cancelling, Bluetooth connectivity and a battery life that lasts up to 65 hours. Every individual hears differently and Audeara records these differences using the Audeara app. The app creates a hearing profile so users can visualise their unique hearing. They can also track any changes that may occur over time. Hearing profiles are also programmed into each user’s headphones. This creates a personalised and precise listening experience.

The headphones are also accessible to people with more extensive hearing loss as it is compatible to use with hearing aids or cochlear implants. Furthermore, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Australia has recently agreed to register the A-01 headphones. Therefore, people with hearing impairments and other disabilities can claim back the cost of the headphones.

“With this technology, we are able to create an enhanced listening experience for our users,” Dr James Fielding said. “The result is supreme tailored sound like no other headphone out there that allows users to listen to their favourite music the way the artists intended it.”
