In India, e-commerce collection at metro stations

Customers will soon be able to collect their e-commerce purchases from kiosks at ten Metro stations in New Delhi.

One of the major logistical flaws with e-commerce delivery is that most people are out of the house during the daytime when delivery takes place, which results in customers missing their packages. In the UK, Network Rail is solving this with their Doddle mail collection points at train stations, and now the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in India is trialling a similar scheme.

Customers will soon be able to arrange to collect their e-commerce purchases from ten Metro stations in New Delhi including MG Road, HUDA City Centre and Kashmere Gate. When making online purchases, users will have the option to select ‘station collection’ as a delivery method. They then choose their preferred station and will be given a one-time password via email or SMS. Their order will be delivered to the designated station, where they can collect it from a kiosk during their commute to work.

We have already seen a drop-in clinic in The Hague Central Station. Could other services be offered in station kiosks?
