The online market, which helps low-income Americans with chronic health conditions, is expanding its technology platform and service delivery model
Spotted: Food plays a huge role in wellness, recovery, and prevention of disease, but many people don’t have access to the specific food and resources they need to live a healthy life. Free From Market aims to help close these inequalities in the US.
The online platform seeks to make it easier for those with chronic health conditions to manage their health with proper nutrition, with an online store of over 1,500 healthful products that can be delivered straight to the user. Free From also offers 1-on-1 coaching and other online educational resources to make healthier lifestyles more easily accessible and implementable.
Co-founder and chief executive, Emily Brown, said: “Our new investors and partners, who bring expertise in food, supply chain, and digital health, provide us the opportunity to reach and impact more people. Every household, regardless of income or zip code, deserves access to high quality food and ongoing support that meet their specific healthcare needs.”
Free From Market just received a $2.1 million (about €1.95 million) seed investment to help further its mission. The investment will be used to help Free From Market reach more people by enhancing its technology platform and expand its service delivery model.
Brown says, however, that the funding is “merely one milestone towards our goal to make a lasting impact to improve healthcare in this country and centre health equity”.
There are many other innovations seeking to tackle food insecurity. Springwise has also spotted an app that connects users with free meals from restaurants, and a startup that stocks up community fridges.
