Made-for-iPhone hearing aid offers smart extras

ReSound LiNX is a high-end hearing aid that has been developed to be 100% compatible with Apple devices and make use of smart tech.

Regular readers of Springwise may remember the BioAid, a system developed by the UK’s University of Essex that turns an iPhone into a makeshift hearing aid. Now Danish tech company ReSound has launched its ReSound LiNX, a high-end hearing aid that has been developed to be 100% compatible with Apple devices, offering a number of extra functionalities.

The hearing aid itself is no bigger than other devices on the market and features a Bluetooth transmitter that enables it to be connected to a smartphone or tablet. Users have the option to use the hearing aid as is, or to stream live stereo sound picked up by their device. Either way, the audio is processed using the on-board SmartRange chip for greater clarity. The hearing aid is also optimized for use with Apple devices, and users can automatically stream music, FaceTime audio and even GPS directions by choosing the function through the companion app. The video below from CES 2014 explains more about how the device works:

ReSound LiNX turns what is usually a mere practical technology into more of a lifestyle option for the hard of hearing by offering seamless connectivity with popular consumer products. Are there other ways to take entertainment into account when developing accessibility devices?
