CarePredict has created a smartwatch-like device that tracks the daily activities of seniors and alerts loved ones if something's not right.
Wearable tech has already found a keen market in the young fitness sector, but smart devices can also help the older generation lead better lives. We’ve already seen Israel’s Oxitone, a heart attack-detecting wrist sensor, and now CarePredict has created a smartwatch-like device that tracks the daily activities of seniors and alerts loved ones if something’s not right.
Designed to be worn around the wrist, the CarePredict Tempo features motion and location sensors to create a “rhythm journal” of wearers’ normal activities. This information is then used to determine if seniors are following their usual routine or if it’s been disrupted — for example, little activity in living room may be a sign that the user is taking their afternoon nap, but no movement for an extended period of time may be more cause for concern. If a disruption is detected, an alert is sent to pre-determined contacts who can use the data to decide if they should reach out. Activity is also tracked over time, meaning that small changes every day can be monitored in case they’re a sign of decline.
CarePredict Tempo requires no input from its elderly users, but could mean that they get the help they need in a timely manner when an accident occurs or they come down with an illness, ultimately giving them greater independence in their later years. It is now available to pre-order for USD 169, and the continuous monitoring service is priced from USD 14.99 a month. Are there other ways to ensure relatives can look after the elderly while giving them the space they need?
