Skurt lets visitors to LA order rental cars via a smartphone app and have it delivered by an agent at the arrivals terminal.
Renting a car from the airport usually involves time-consuming shuttles, queues and paperwork — the last thing anyone wants after a flight. But now, Skurt is a new LA-based service that enables visitors to order a rental car via an app and have it delivered to them by an agent at the arrivals terminal.
Users can specify hire date and time and choose from a range of car models and sizes. They then confirm and pay for the hire through the app. Upon landing, they will be met with a representative wearing the branded purple shirt and holding a sign, then escorted to their rental car directly outside — the exchange is confirmed by a signature on the phone. To return the car, users simply schedule a drop off at the airport and meet the agent at their departing terminal. Skurt don’t charge underage fees or gas mark-ups and the agent will even help customers with their bags. LA residents can also use the service by arranging a car delivery to a location of their choice.
Prices start from USD 24 per day with a USD 100 deposit. Could the system, which bypasses Uber’s surcharge rates find a place in the monopolized market?
