In Stockholm, hotel accepts artwork as payment for a night’s stay

The Clarion Hotel Stockholm has recently begun accepting artwork as payment from the artists who visit.

We’ve seen barter used as a method of payment by Italian bed and breakfast operators, but the Clarion Hotel Stockholm recently put a particularly interesting spin on the concept. As part of its focus on art and music, the Swedish hotel recently began accepting artwork as payment from the artists who visit. Beginning earlier this month, guests with a flair for art choosing to stay at the Clarion can pay for one night’s worth of their visit with a piece of their artwork. After using the booking code ‘Room for Art’ when reserving their room, artists must also download and fill out an accompanying form to submit with their work. Art must be in A4 format and signed by the artist, who transfers full ownership to the hotel when payment is made. Clarion’s Room for Art offer can be used for at most one night per stay for two people in a double room; artists can take advantage of it twice per calendar year. A similar effort has also been under way at Stuttgart’s Performance Hotel, where guests can pay for a night of their stay by performing a reading, concert or dance.
