Accessible travel site caters to those with mobility needs

Accomable is a new online service that lists accessible accommodation and aids for travelers needing extra mobility assistance.

We recently wrote about tech helping to solve individual accessibility challenges, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen large-scale accessibility projects such as this internationally crowdsourced map for commuters with disabilities. Accomable’s founders are using their own experiences to create a travel service that caters specifically to those with additional mobility requirements. Traveling in a wheelchair typically involves a host of additional logistical arrangements, and Accomable’s goal is to make travel available to anyone, whatever their accessibility needs.

Currently listing more than 500 properties in 50 countries, Accomable’s team vets all accessibility claims. Visitors to the website can filter their accommodation search by specific requirements, including grab rails, step-free access and roll-in shower. Further development of the service includes direct online bookings and equipment hire listings, including adapted car rentals and specialist medial equipment.

Where else could technology help increase accessibility?
