Travelers can experience their destination’s weather at Swedish airport

Arlanda Airport now has an immersive Climate Portal, which enables visitors experience the weather conditions of destinations around the world.

Most holiday-seekers have stepped off a plane at one time or another and felt the cold wind of their destination mocking their optimistic attire. Now, Swedish travelers no longer need to suffer this cruel fate because Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport has created the first Climate Portal, which lets visitors preview the weather conditions of destinations all around the world.

The Climate Portal was created by advertising agency Åkestam Holst for Swedavia — who manage all of Sweden’s commercial airports. The three room installation encompasses several senses including sight, hearing and touch. The system is connected to online weather services which monitor conditions around the world, and translate the data collected into audio-visual installations and wind and temperature simulations, providing guests with an immersive real time experience.

Perhaps climate simulation could be used by retailers to get consumers in the mood for the season ahead?
