Tupperware features timer and lock to curb snacking

The Kitchen Safe is a plastic container fitted with a timed lock to enable owners to ensure they don't snack too often.

Sometimes, humans just can’t stop themselves, which isn’t great for those on diets or trying to kick a bad habit. We’ve already seen negative conditioning used in the Virtual Fridge Lock, which broadcasts users’ late night fridge raids on social networks, but now the Kitchen Safe is a Tupperware kit fitted with a timed lock to enable owners to ensure they don’t snack too often.

The plastic container can hold around 3.5 quarts of food – such as chocolate, biscuits, sweets and other unhealthy snacks – which can be locked away using the timer located on the lid. The easy-to-use dial is twisted until the desired duration is shown on the LCD display. Users can lock away goods from anywhere between one minute to ten days, and the container can’t be opened until the timer has ran out. The Kitchen Safe can be used to store junk food away from dieters, but also gadgets such as video game controllers, smartphones and toys away from kids, and credit cards, car keys and cigarettes away from adults. Having successfully reached its funding target on Kickstarter, the Kitchen Safe has gone into mass production and can be pre-ordered for USD 39.95 from the product’s website. How else could simple ideas such as this help protect consumers from bad habits, or maybe even spur productivity?
