Al Jazeera's new app provides a live audio stream of their TV channels, and is tailored for countries with low-speed internet.
Accessing news with low bandwidth can be a major problem in parts of the world that are still developing and improving their digital infrastructure. That’s why Al Jazeera, the Qatar-backed media organization, has developed a new audio app — listen.aljazeera.com — that enables users in countries with slow internet speeds to access their news.
The app provides a live audio stream of Al Jazeera’s Arabic and English language channels, and users can browse channels and view broadcasting schedules. While enjoying the company’s television broadcast is difficult in countries with slower connection speeds, radio and audio programs consume less data. The app will also help grow Al Jazeera’s content on smartphones and other mobile devices in developing countries.
The media giant says the new service will develop an enhanced, digital listening experience for markets with low-speed internet, including Southeast Asia and Africa. They have also recently developed a channel for Snapchat, bringing an additional platform for its users to access news.
How else can media companies reach new audiences?
