UK’s Royal Mint uses AR to celebrate 50th anniversary of 50p coin

The Royal Mint embraces the wonders of AR to celebrate a coin

Spotted: The Royal Mint in London is using augmented reality (AR) to honour the 50th anniversary of the UK’s 50 pence coin. For a limited time, visitors to the Mint can make their own coin as part of The Royal Mint Experience. The 2019 50p ‘New Pence’ includes an AR experience, designed by UK-based Zapper.

Visitors will need a smartphone to access exclusive AR features at the exhibit. It also includes interactive zones that bring the Royal Mint’s history to life. The commemorative coins are available until 31 March 2019. It costs €23 (£19.90) to make a coin.
