Underwater tent lets you camp in the ocean

The dome-shaped habitat allows divers to decompress, eat, and even sleep underwater

US-based Ocean Opportunity has designed a portable “tent” that allows divers to camp underwater. Called Ocean Space Habitat, the dome-shaped shelter can be deployed undersea. The shelter takes the form of a frame that is then anchored. Its interior creates an air-filled pocket that features a seat and a replenishable oxygen source. The portable underwater habitat gives divers dry space for about four to six hours during which they can take off their gear, eat, rest, and literally decompress deep in the sea.

The tent was designed by diving expert Michael Lombardi and nursing professor Winslow Burleson, the director of NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing’s cross-disciplinary NYU-X Lab. It has been patented by Lombardi and can be found online here.
