Wireless earphones designed for running also track fitness

Freewavz are fitness earphones that combine wireless technology with in-built exercise tracking capabilities and audio feedback.

Regular readers of Springwise may remember our recent coverage of OwnPhones, the 3D printed earbuds that don’t fall out even when doing physical activity. Currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, Freewavz is another brand of fitness earphones that combine wireless technology with in-built exercise tracking capabilities and audio feedback.

Designed by ENT specialist Dr Eric Hensen, the headphones are developed to form a snug, secure fit around and inside the ear. Using Bluetooth to connect to smartphones, the devices are able to play music while also ensuring a level of ‘listen-through’ to keep users aware of the sound of nearby vehicles. They also act as a Bluetooth headset, enabling user to answer phonecalls or control their phone through voice commands. On-board sensors mean the headphones are also capable of accurately monitoring a number of metrics, including heartrate, calories burned and blood oxygen levels. Through audio feedback, real-time notifications are provided to help athletes keep track of their performance.
