Through a combination of small, wireless sensors and a smartphone app, LUMOback will monitor the user's posture in real time and help make it better.
Back pain affects some 80 percent of Americans at some time in their lives and is the number one reason for job-related disability. That’s according to California-based LUMOback, which is now gearing up to offer a tech-enabled solution. Through a combination of small, wireless sensors and a smartphone app, LUMOback will monitor the user’s posture in real time and help make it better. LUMOback is developing a thin, flexible and wearable wireless sensor that will monitor and measure the wearer’s posture in real time. When he or she is slouching, it will send small, gentle vibrations to the wearer’s lower back as a reminder to sit up straight. Connecting with the LUMOback sensor, meanwhile, is a mobile app that monitors the user’s posture throughout the day and offers tips and insights that can dramatically improve his or her overall back health, the company says. The video below explains the premise in more detail: LUMOback is now getting ready to launch a beta program; those interested are invited to sign up on its site.
