before, but now we’ve come across something a little different. Aiming to bring more news reports from around the world before the eyes of English-speaking readers, French
Worldcrunch selects, translates and edits content from top foreign-language outlets and delivers them online to English speakers.
“Worldcrunch delivers the best global journalism previously shut off from English language readers,” in the site’s own words. Toward that end, the site taps a staff of contributors around the globe who can react quickly to breaking events and find the best content in the international media. Worldcrunch is also in the process of creating a platform, dubbed Crunch It!, to build a community of newshounds who will flag and help translate interesting stories from both mainstream media outlets and blogs, as well as produce stories of their own. The site explains further: “By combining professional journalistic standards with the energy of the web’s flock of curious readers, writers and translators — and building a framework for copyright access and distribution — we create a whole new well of top-shelf news content from the best sources covering the world today. And our vision for the future? Worldcrunch will be the virtual square where language barriers fade, and a new brand of global journalism is born.”
Worldcrunch just launched earlier this year, and there is at least one other site —
Presseurop — that does something similar. For all those in news, this could be a trend to get involved in.
