Outdoor dining experiences have often graced our virtual pages, with recent examples including Buitengewoon In Het Land and Butler For Hire’s picnic service. But up until now we’ve never seen anything like WWOO’s outdoor kitchen units, which let the DIY diner create a unique outdoor eating experience.

Created by interior designer Piet-Jan van den Kommer, the outdoor kitchens are built out of a series of individual units. These units — 1.5 meters wide and approximately 1.4 or 2 meters high — connect to together in any order, with their concrete backs joining up to create a fence. This means the sets ups can be customized and expanded as the user desires. The basic WWOO set up incorporates twelve wall elements, eight loose kitchen worktops and four ‘shelves’, all of which are made of concrete, as well as either a Big Green Egg or Weber barbecue, a stainless steel basin and tap, and a removable stainless steel hearth. Additional features such as an outdoor shower can also be added. Those who wish to alter the set up can do so by liaising personally with Piet-Jan van den Kommer.

WWOO boast that whilst other outdoor kitchens can require a great deal of maintenance and are often expensive, WWOO requires hardly any maintenance at all, and is comparatively affordable. One to be inspired by! (Related: Redesigning the houseboat: an eco-minded floating apartmentIKEA kitchens, designed and installed locallyNew building block design serves multiple purposes.)
