Augmented reality experience for economy class flyers

Emirates launches the world’s first interactive in-flight amenity kit.

In the past few years we’ve seen augmented reality being used for everything from measuring bespoke furniture, to turning users’ homes into a haunted house. Now airline Emirates is offering economy class customers inflight amenity kits with AR.

The kits, handed out by flight attendants, include all the usual necessities for comfort on long-haul flights such as an eye mask, earplugs, toothbrush and toothpaste, and socks. The goody bag comes in a case designed with one of six different patterns, each inspired by the regions they fly to — Australasia, Latin America, Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Far East. Customers download the app from the App Store or Google Play, and use it to scan the bags and activate entertainment activities such as calming playlists, doodles for kids and health tips. The content will be continually refreshed every six months to keep frequent flyers engaged.

Emirates have partnered with Blippar, an AR consultancy, to offer the content. How else can brands use AR to engage customers?
