Lightweight AR glasses set to hit the mass market

An artificial intelligence and robotics startup has announced its plans to release a pair of AR glasses that is powered with an internal processor, Bluetooth and WiFi.

Advances in technology have transformed regular everyday objects. Rokid is a Chinese startup company specialising in smart home devices. Their glasses weigh just 120 grams, solving the heavy issue competing models have. Additionally, the glasses are made from alloy frames for better cooling and replaces the plastic used in their prototype. The glasses are also embedded with both voice and facial recognition technology. This means that the glasses can update the wearer with details pulled from the person’s recent social media posts, helping aid conversation.

Furthermore, the device will run on Android 7.0 with 4 gigabytes of memory and 64 gigabytes of storage. The Rokid Glass product is also embedded with object recognition, recognizing products and displaying information about it. For example, it could tell the wearer the measurements and material of a handbag upon recognition. If adopted by retailers, this could revolutionize the shopping experience. The glasses have a 12 megapixel camera, which can be fitted with prescription lenses. In addition the glasses can also have a built in touchpad and even have embedded audio with speakers and microphones.
