Pay-As-You-Go hotel rooms benefit both travellers and hoteliers

New app allows travelers to book hotel rooms at short notice and pay for them by the hour, avoiding the restrictions of check-in and check-out times.

Being on the go is tiring. It’s important to have somewhere for recuperate, even if it’s just for a couple of hours. A new app, As You Stay, frees travelers from booking overnight hotels with rigid policies on check-in and checkout times. It allows travellers to book a hotel room for hours at a time, paying as they go.

Rooms can be booked from one hour and for a maximum of 24. The app features mainly boutique and independently-owned hotels, but also hosts larger chains including Hilton, Marriott and Carlson. The service is designed for last minute, short term bookers. Nothing can be booked more than 23 hours in advance and rooms can only be booked for a maximum of 24 hours. The product has a wide range of potential clients, amongst them travelers stuck with a long layover, employers and recruiters needing a professional place to interview potential job candidates, and business people ready to trade in the coffee-house chaos for a quiet, comfortable workspace.

In September, we wrote about this late night cafe which allows its users to pay for space by the hour around the clock. Could Pay-As-You-Go be introduced into other consumer services?
